Weight Watchers Smart. Points comparison. The most common question I get asked is about the new Weight Watchers programme; what it's about and how it works. I've created this video to help explain. Weight Watchers Momentum is an old diet program that still sparks. So, today was my Wednesday Weigh- in, and I can't say I was disappointed when I stepped on the scale this morning ; ). I was at 1. 30. 5, which is down 2 whole pounds from last week; and 2. I wasn't actively trying to lose weight this week, but I had a lot going on with Jerry being in the hospital 4 out of 5 days in a row. My average calorie intake was 1,5. It definitely did not sound like the right plan for me (especially when I saw that my beloved dried cherries were 8 . I used the new Weight Watchers app to calculate my Smart. Points at the end of each day, just out of curiosity. For reference, if I was doing Weight Watchers, my daily target to MAINTAIN my weight would be 3. Smart. Points per day, plus 2. Smart. Points per week. If I was trying to LOSE weight, my daily target would be just 3. Smart. Points per day, plus 2. Smart. Points per week. Here is the result: W: 1,6. Smart. Points. T: 1,2. Smart. Points. F: 1,9. Once again Weight Watchers gives itself. Was doing very well on Points Plus and had. Smart. Points. S: 1,4. Smart. Points. S: 1,3. Smart. Points. M: 1,2. Smart. Points. T: 1,5. Smart. Points. Totals for the week: 1. Smart. Points. Averages each day: 1,5. Smart. Points. That means, in this week, I would have gone OVER by 1. Smart. Points in maintenance, and 1. Smart. Points if I was trying to lose weight. If I was trying to follow the Smart. Points plan, I probably would have made different choices about what to eat. I would have tried to fill up on fruits and vegetables, and eat less sugar and/or processed foods, so the Smart. Points counts would probably have been lower. This is NOT a review of the new plan, nor was it an experiment as a week on Weight Watchers' new plan; all I did was calculate how many Smart. Points I'd eaten for a week, out of curiosity.)Anyway, here is a sample day, based on things that I would typically eat: Breakfast: Larabar (which is just dates, nuts, and dried fruit) with 8 g. I'm not going to bash the new Weight Watchers program, because I understand what Weight Watchers is going for- -when . I find that the opposite happens with me. The more restrictions I have, the less likely I am to stick with the program. I get frustrated while trying to find a compromise between foods I enjoy and that fit in with the plan. Weight Watchers PointsPlus Versus Momentum. Any thoughts on the new Weight Watchers Program? The points plus program does not work for me. Weight Watchers' New SmartPoints Diet Plan. Have you heard of Weight Watchers' new points system. Starting the PointsPlus. The Weight Watchers plan has. Overview of the new Weight Watchers SmartPoints program from. Understanding Weight Watchers PointsPlus. Weight Watchers expired the POINTS program. Can someone explain this to me. Weight Watchers used to be pretty simple when calculating Points values: there was a formula that used calories, fat, and fiber. That was the plan that I used to lose most of the 1. I lost in 2. 00. 9- 2. They had a new plan, the Points. Plus system, that then used carbs, fat, fiber, and protein to calculate Points. Plus, which made it a little more complicated. Now, they are using calories, saturated fat, protein, carbs, fiber, and sugar to calculate Smart. Points! It seems like instead of getting simpler, the plan is getting much more complicated and overwhelming. As a newcomer to Weight Watchers back in the day, the biggest appeal to me was that I didn't have to eat a super healthy diet to lose weight. If I was able to stick with a very healthy diet (lots of fruits and veggies, very little sugar, etc), then I wouldn't have been 2. I'd tried making healthy choices God- only- knows- how- many times, but I was never able to stick with it. When doing Weight Watchers, I was able to eat the foods that I wanted (in smaller portions) and still lose the weight. In August 2. 00. 9, at 2. Oreos, ice cream, and Dr. Pepper, I was looking for a weight loss plan that I could stick with. I didn't want to go from pizza and ice cream to salads and grilled fish overnight. I was willing to compromise, though, and Weight Watchers (as the program was back then) allowed me to do that. I could still eat pizza, just not half a pie. I could eat Oreos, just not a whole sleeve in one sitting. And I started adding fruits and vegetables because they were low in Points, so I could eat more food. With this new plan, it would be very hard to fit in even a small treat. I typically eat three meals a day, plus one treat in the evenings (a piece of fudge, for example, like I mentioned yesterday). That 1. 98- calorie piece of fudge was 9 Smart. Points- -exactly one fourth of the Smart. Points WW would allow me to have per day on maintenance! And for a special occasion, like a birthday? A piece of carrot cake is 2. Smart. Points, which would use ALL of the 2. SP allotment. Again, I understand what they were trying to do in getting people to eat healthier- -I just know that, for me, the new plan would make me feel like I was on another diet and I would eventually binge on all the foods I couldn't fit into my daily allotment. On one hand, Weight Watchers is responding to the trend in pushing more protein and less carbs; but on the other hand, it doesn't even feel like Weight Watchers any more. I think the new Smart. Points plan is great for people who already eat a pretty healthy diet, and are just having a hard time losing weight. I also think it would be good for someone who has health issues, and has to cut back on sugar and/or saturated fat. If you spend most of your Smart. Points allowance on lean protein, fruits, and vegetables, you could probably still fit in a small treat now and then. For people (like me) who are otherwise healthy and enjoy carbs, or eat some processed foods, and who want to keep things as simple as possible, calorie counting seems to be a better fit. I'm not suggesting that people don't give the new program a chance. When WW first rolled out the Points. Plus plan, I really didn't like it! That's why I used the old Points plan to start with. Eventually, when I was ready, I really embraced the new plan and it worked out well for me. Who knows, maybe in a few years, I'll decide to give this plan a try. As of now, I recently lost almost 3. I'm 1. 34 days binge- free (woo hoo!).. My friend Andrea did great her first week on the new WW plan, losing 9 pounds(!)- -but she said that she wouldn't be able to do that plan for maintenance. She's hoping to get back to goal and then find a different maintenance plan that isn't so restrictive. My sister switched from WW to calorie counting this week, because of the new WW plan, and she lost 2. There have been tons of mixed reviews of the new WW plan on social media, and it's been an interesting read! If nothing else, it seems to have caused a heated discussion among Weight Watchers members ; ) I know I'm always saying this, but everybody is different, so we all just need to find what works for us. Maybe it's Weight Watchers, maybe it's calorie counting, maybe it's macro counting, maybe it's intuitive eating, maybe it's something else. It's interesting to see all the different ways to accomplish one common goal! The New Weight Watchers Points Plus Program. The new points program is changing the formula and the way Weight Watchers has worked for the last 1. A lot has happened since 1. Technology and science have progressed and so too has our understanding of food, dieting and weight loss. Weight Watchers has adjusted its points system to work more in line with these advancements. When calculating the number of allowable points per week, dieters will have more on the points plus plan than on the previous system. Bonus points have risen to 4. Dieters will be able to eat as much fruit and vegetables as they wish. Examples of Old Weight Watchers Points vs. Weight Watchers Points Plus. Food. Calories. Fat(g)Carbs(g)Fibre(g)Protein. The weight watchers points system to date has helped a countless number of people lose weight successfully, but the new points plus program addresses the key flaws of the original system. Calories. The Weight Watchers Points Plus Program takes into account the nutritional value of food rather than just its caloric value, fat and dietary fibre. For example, a small apple was 1 point and so too was a hot chocolate under the original points system. As long as you stayed within your allowable points, there was little emphasis on nutrition. Under the new points plus program a hot chocolate will end up containing more points than a small apple and this seems like a more reasonable assessment. Further weight loss benefits of the Weight Watchers Points Plus. Healthier more nutritional food higher in protein and fiber requires and burns more energy for digestion (up to 2. Food with a higher protein and fiber content is more filling and satisfying, reducing the hunger and cravings that often damage weight loss endeavors. Yes fruit contains calories, but they are also full of vitamins and minerals that contribute to the general health of members. Many people do not get the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day so the “eat as much as you like” rule will help people to do. Sound judgment should be used though to avoid eating amounts that will slow weight loss efforts. Does the Weight Watchers Points Plus Program Work? The Fundamentals are the same. The Points Plus Program has a greater focus on nutrition; it seems so obvious that it almost sounds ridiculous. But what Weight Watchers have done here is very important. Weight Watchers have not changed the fundamental components of their system that has worked so successfully for so many people. There are still the meetings, support groups, exercise focus and of course, the points system. Importantly, the point system will provide the same benefit to its members by allowing them to easily choose and portion the food they eat each day. The adjustment for existing members. For new members particularly this is a good thing, but for current members who have become accustomed to the guidelines that the old point system established, there may be a bit of an adjustment. They will be penalized more for many of the foods they enjoyed more freely before as the new system goes about teaching nutrition, not just calories. There has been some resistance and negative feedback from old members in regard to this adjustment and the difficulty in estimating the amount of points with a new system when eating out or shopping. Some have expressed appreciation over the nutritional guidance of the points plus. Success stories. It is early days yet but we are hearing some great success stories from the Weight Watchers Points Plus Program already with people reporting excellent weight loss over several to twelve weeks. More time will tell however whether this program will be as successful as it has been so far. I think that once members adjust to the new scheme and new members climb on board, the new system will work a treat and continue to provide healthy effective weight loss for masses of people.
